Doing a placement was one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far. The process was exhausting and quite demotivating at times with rejections upon rejections and travel expenses upon travel expenses for interviews but it was all worth it in the end. I am currently doing a placement at The Walt Disney Company as a Cash and Bank Intern.
This placement has provided a more practical side to the basics of accounts such as debits and credits, reconciliation and has also added more value to my CV. I can even confidently say I am a pro at using Excel now! This placement has also put everything in context for me. I have always said Uni is a little bubble therefore being exposed to the real working world with 9-5’s, 1hr train journeys, extremely packed trains, weekends being your only free, you start to see things in a whole new perspective and also appreciate everything a lot more. It has also enabled me to comprehend how adaptable I am to different environments/ people and most importantly what field I want to get into within Accountancy. It is a journey I am grateful for.
With all of that said, I would urge you all to apply for a placement even if it isn’t something you’ve thought about. You will be surprised by the outcome. If I had to describe this experience in three words, I would say overwhelming, magical (if it’s Disney) and fulfilling.”
